Being allowed into a family’s space during such a vulnerable and sacred moment in their life is a job that I’ll never take lightly. As cliché as it sounds, it truly takes a village to raise a child, and I realized that in our fast-paced culture, we often aren't supported as much as we would like to be as new parents. As parents, we always find a way to do it all, even when it comes at a cost.
I'm a mother, lactation counselor, doula, and the founder of Repose Postpartum.
At some point, I began to myself: what if strength didn’t mean doing everything alone?
This epiphany became my catalyst into becoming a doula. I feel honored to have a role in which I can provide parents the support that I desperately needed when I was postpartum.
I love being that support system to new and growing families, to show them how to feed and soothe their baby, to let them know they’re doing an amazing job, and remind them to pay no mind to the naysayers who have something to say about their choice in parenting.
Taking care of ourselves is the best way we can take care of our family.
It took me a while to realize that it's okay to not be able to do it all. Feeling overwhelmed, asking for help, and putting myself first is okay.
